Gurdas Maan Information Station

If you were to ask anyone about Punjabi music, the first person you would hear about is Gurdas Maan. After first gaining national attention in 1980 with the song “Dil Da Mamla”, he has moved from an unknown Punjabi singer and songwriter, to an international icon who has toured across the Globe.

“Dil Da Mamla” caught the attention of a Jalandhar TV station producer, who approached Gurdas Maan and asked if he would perform it live on television. Gurdas Maan reluctantly agreed to this performance, however after it was aired on the 31 December 1980 he became a national success and household name in India. This attracted the interest of the recording company HMV who asked Gurdas to record the song. Gurdas released his debut album in 1981 with HMV and it was a huge success.

Gurdas Maan was a breath of fresh air for the Punjabi music as the market was overcrowded with duet performers. Gurdas was approached with many offers to perform as a duet but he declined as he was confident he would become successful solo singer.  His 30-year career has been spectacular and Gurdas Maan has attained a level of success that has been unrivalled to date.

Gurdas Maan is only one of a few artists from India who has the capability to sell out high capacity arenas such as the LG Arena (Birmingham) and Wembley Arena (London).
